What to Expect in Your First Jiu Jitsu Class (No, You Don’t Need to Be Fit!)
Thinking of trying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but feeling nervous? You’re not alone — everyone starts somewhere, and most of us show up unsure, unfit, and a little overwhelmed.
The good news? Your first class doesn’t have to be perfect — just show up.
Here’s what to expect on Day One:
A Warm Welcome: We’ll introduce you to your coach, answer any questions, and make sure you’re comfortable.
A Basic Warmup: Movements are simple and explained clearly. You’ll never be left behind.
Technique + Drilling: You’ll be paired up and shown a technique step-by-step. Think: learning a move, then repeating it with a partner — not full sparring.
A Respectful Mat Culture: You’ll learn how to bow in, how to train safely, and how to respect your teammates.
Support at Every Step: Nobody expects you to know what you’re doing — that’s the whole point of training.
Pro Tip: Wear comfortable gym clothes (no zips or buttons), bring water, and come with an open mind. If you have a gi, great — if not, we’ve got one you can borrow.
Ready to start? Our next beginner course kicks off [Insert Date] — no experience needed, just curiosity.
